The Eastern Grey's range from the inland plains of eastern Australia to the coast, from semi arid lands to eucalypt forest. It is a grazing animal feeding almost entirely of grasses. The animals rest in social family groups in the shade during the day moving out to feed in the late afternoon and early morning hour. Breeding occurs throughout the year with a peak of births in the summer months. Only one young (joey) is born at a time 36 day after mating and is only 800mg in weight - (about the size of a peanut). The young Joey will start leaving the safety of the pouch for short periods at about 9 months of age, but will still suckle from the one nipple until it is 18 months old. At this stage a second young up to 8 months old may be on the second nipple.
